A Day of Prayer and Meditation
with The Reverend Barbara Crafton

Saturday, January 7th, we spent midday and ate lunch with Mother Barbara Crafton, who led us in meditations and discussions on the theme, Prayer in Difficult Times.  Mother Crafton is a nationally known author and lecturer who has taught thousands of people the simple art of prayer and other spiritual disciplines.

At her website you can read or listen to brief "almost daily" meditations, or sign up to get them via email.

Holy Eucharist      All persons present are invited to experience the real presence of our Lord Jesus Christ by joining us at the altar. To receive the host, hold your hands out in front of you. To receive the wine, you may intinct by dipping the wafer into the wine, or you may assist the server by guiding the chalice to your lips. If you wish only to receive a blessing, simply cross your arms over your chest as a signal to the clergy. It is customary to remain at the altar rail until the person to your left has received communion.

Coping with grief     From time to time, our Deacon Kent Curtis, an experienced social worker, facilitates a support group for those coping with grief and bereavement. In the past the group has met once a month after the Sunday morning service. If you're interested in this kind of activity, please let us know.

Prayer requests     If you would like us to pray for an individual by name during Prayers of the People, you will find the Parish Prayer List on the back table as you enter the church, where you can write their names. Or you could mention it to the ushers before the service, or you may contact the church at 212-758-0447 or at info@allsaintsnyc.org. Or simply fill out the dialog box below.

Setting up for a community meal. Want to help? We need you.

The Saturday Community Meal provides a nourishing, complete dinner to the homeless, the needy, the lonely, in our neighborhood. Approximately 60 men and women are our dinner guests every week. Come help cook or serve the meal. It's a grace-filled way to show love.

Our guests come in from the cold to enjoy a hot, home-cooked meal, along with fellowship, a friendly atmosphere, and sometimes entertainment. This program has been a blessing and joy to all volunteers who have participated.

Volunteers are needed on Saturday afternoon for an hour or so to set up (set tables, make coffee and iced tea, etc.). Servers come between 4:30 and 5. Clean-up is finished by 6:15 at the latest. Your help is needed.

Do you find yourself at a loss for ideas when it's time to buy another birthday or Father's Day gift? The cost of one Saturday's meal is about $125. Wouldn't your mother be proud for you to donate in her name, giving her the opportunity to feed the hungry the way she once lovingly fed you?

It takes money to keep an outreach program going. We have two fund raisers each year for the Community Meal, usually on a Sunday evening at 6. Admission is $15. The food is good, and there's an informal cabaret atmosphere--lots of laughs and singing around the piano. It's a great way to make new friends.

Watch this website for fundraiser information and come join us, but meanwhile, please come help out on Saturdays. It's a guarantee you'll be glad you did.
